Maximize Fertilizer Spreader Efforts By Checking Soil pH

Applying fertilizer is an important step in maximizing crop yield, but before you even take that step you should first calculate your soil pH. Why? pH is more important than fertility, because without the proper pH, a plant can’t take up the nutrients that are available to it – with or without fertilizer.

A pH of 6.0 is considered optimal. If it is far above or below 6.0, a large portion of nitrogen in the soil will be unavailable to the crop. Conversely, when soil is balanced, a crop has the ability to grow to its maximum potential by absorbing the nutrients that are suspended in the soil. So, before you even take out your fertilizer spreader, check your soil pH for maximum yield.
