Frequently Asked Questions

QUESTION:

What type of truck will I need to pull my spreader?

ANSWER:

Truck Manure Spreader: What type of truck do I need?

If you have purchased or are about to purchase a truck manure spreader or other type of truck mounted spreader, the type of truck you will need should be a main consideration. The answer to this question requires careful examination of several variables such as your geographic location, the type of ground you have to traverse, how big of an area you’re covering and its grade, and more.

In our experience, a diesel motor is preferable to gas because of its low end torque, and we also recommend air brakes and air shift PTO.

However, it is the cab to axle ratio (CA) that is a huge deciding factor on how the spreader will be able to operate off-road. The proper CA ratio must be obtained to be balanced and operate properly. As a general rule, we recommend that 63% of the body length to be located in front of axle. Obtaining this proper ratio will allow you to maximize your spreader’s efficiency.

If you’re not sure what this means for your situation, we encourage you to give us a call. We can help you determine what truck manure spreader or other truck mounted spreader will work best for your situation.
